I use my idea dongle dongle to connect to internet...i like to play online games through gameranger software in windows 7 but the problem is that some hidden application usses my net and i can't play game as it becomes so lagyy..i just want to allow only game ranger to use net and nothing else

Solution
This should not happen on a healthy PC that is connected to the internet on a good stable connection, scan your PC for spyware, malware and viruses.

If you really want to allow only one program to access the internet you can do that in the windows firewall settings. Just remove the check mark from the programs that you don't want to allow access.

I was avoiding this question because I forget the exact answer but I know the default firewall is not the correct answer. For example how in the firewall can you allow IE to access the internet but not chrome. Both use exactly the same port to access the internet. The firewall only blocks ports it does not really care who is using them. So if the bad software is using the same ports as the good software the firewall has no idea.

This question has been asked before but I can't find the answer. I think it is related to group policy and there is a third party program to set it.

It allows only certain executable or processes to use network ports on the computer....maybe someone else will now see this that remembers.

If memory serves me right you can do this but with a third party firewall like comodo and set it to ask permission for everything and then click the remember my answer. Only problem is as bill001g stated there are times something that looks like unnecesary needs to access internet may be a host or service that would allow the game to connect also. If you chose this point and can create restore points I would create them every so often with notes as to what service was denied so that if you have an issue you can go back if you do not make them allowed again.
