Hi, I just bought a 970 pro SSD and was looking to do a clean install of Windows 10 onto it, but first I have to update my motherboard BIOS. I have not done this before and from what I understand it is a pretty risky endeavor. I had a Cyberpower PC built a ways back and my current motherboard is an ASUS TUF Z270 Mark 2. My current BIOS version is 0702 and the newest version is 1301. One of the in between updates doesn't have a version number, it's the one immediately after version 1009 and it states the following;

"MEUpdateTool
Intel has identified security issue that could potentially place impacted platform at risk. Use ME Update tool to update your ME.
*We suggest you update ME Driver to the latest Version 11.7.0.1040 simultaneously.
Please download the file and check the MD5 code first.
MD5: 6d3df63d6fe7019f956e91aeb6bc9410".

So, I have a couple of questions/issues here. First, can I just skip that and upgrade to the latest version or do I have to mess around with the ME update? Second, what steps should I take to update my BIOS to the latest version? Any help would be appreciated.

I would skip that because I think it is most likely in the latest version.

As far as the upgrade....ASUS should have BIOS upgrade instructions on their website.

It's usually very simple. ....like you boot to a USB stick with the BIOS update file on it or something similar.

The main thing is don't shut down or lose power during the process of the upgrade.

I usually make sure my power cord is secure before I do a BIOS upgrade.

Hi, Just skip it and update to the latest one.
Try using the EZ Flash in BIOS. Unzip and save the latest version on a FAT 32 formatted USB drive. Restart, access the BIOS, reset all values to default, go to Tool menu, EZ Flash 3, and follow the instructions.

Ok good to know, I also noticed that there are settings you have to change back after the update is finished, is there any particular settings I need to change for when the computer reboots and the new BIOS is installed?

Ok cool, seems simple enough, I'll find my flash drive and give it a shot. Is there anything I have to do after the new BIOS is installed or am I good to go? I was seeing other people had to mess around with some setting after they finished installing the new version.

When I install the new BIOS I usually set it to default if it's not already there and then make whatever changes I want.
