HI there basically I wanted to help upgrade my friends PC but im a bit out the loop on all components these days! He basically wants it to be a gaming PC or a budget one at that! So im creating this friend to try and get some real help to see if his current build could do with upgrading! Components wise or even just building a completely new budget PC!
Here are his components..

2.80 gigahertz AMD sempron 145 CPU
ASRock N68-VS3 UCC motherboard
4096mb memory
2Gb hard drive
GT 610 graphics card

At the moment he can run games such as Dota and Batman fine but other games even on minimum settings.. So please help me out and figure out how to upgrade this PC!

Specifically most likely to game in comfort at min-high settings whilst also recording!

Its going to be a gradual upgrade and he can spend about £50 a month on parts or save up for bigger ones.

There is not much to upgrade on this pc, it is all very outdated. You could start by getting a entry-level videocard maybe a GTX 750ti or R9 270, but both will be bottlenecked by the cpu. They should perform better though than the GT610. You don't mention the current psu, but probably it would need to be replaced also when getting a new videocard.
Next would be a new motherboard, cpu and ram. A minimum total budget for this would be around $4-500 for a gaming pc that could run any game at high settings.
You could choose the AMD APU path, which is cheap and will be able to play most new games at med settings.

To keep that MB, a Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition would be the best AM3 you could get. That's IF you can find one new and you're going to pay $200 US for one.

If that's really a 2Gb HDD and not a typo, then that's going to have to be upgraded, I've had game updates use more space then that. You could get a 500Gb or 1Tb for decent prices if you shop around.

The GPU is where you're really going to run into issues. A 610 isn't going to do much these days. For decent gaming and going on the cheap then a 750Ti at around $130US would work.

4gigs of RAM could probably use a upgrade, but the price is going to depend on if he has a single 4gig stick in one of the slots and if you can find another of the same one to double it. If it's 2x2gig then you're looking to spend around another $100ish on 8 gigs of new DDR3.

All in all your looking at around $500 US for upgrades. That's not including possibly needing a new PSU to power things. You're starting to get into the range where he may want to save up for a while and do a complete build, that AM3 motherboard is making things hard. Even with the upgrades it's more of a band-aid where as doing a new build on a budget would allow him to continue to upgrade it later on.

Thanks for the great replies everyone! So it looks like everything could do with replacing.. SO if I was going to get all completely new parts and scrap the old PC what components would be best? Id say the budget is around $300-500 which is about 200-350 british pounds..
oh and its a 2TB HDD my bad :)
