Need help upgrading cpu motherboard and ram.

I want to upgrade my cpu motherboard and ram to best possible while staying under $600 total. I will be using this for gaming. I heard i7 4790k is the best for gaming right now, if so what would be a good motherboard and memory to pair up with it. Any and all suggestions will be a big help.thanks.

Well you haven't given any other specs of what your using left over from the pervious build but a good I5 4690K Will be more then enough for gaming now if your using vid ed software or some of other software then the I7 is your best best but the I 5 is more then enough and can over clock as well with a good z 97 board such as http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157505 would be a good start....

Currently have i5 3330 with some random motherboard 8gb of ram and a gtx 970. I do Photoshop almost daily as well as cinema 4d video effects every once in a while.that's why I was thinking the i7 would be best bet. Also if someone could tell me a motherboard that is compatible with the i7 4790k and supports 2400 ddr 3 ram that would be great.

What are you familiar with? asus, gigabyte, ecs,biostar, msi.....

If you already have a ivybridge setup, the cheapest option for you would be just to grab a i7 3770/ Xeon 1231v2 and some more ram, the extra cost of upgrading to a 4790k isnt worth it IMO.

if you have the spare money why not go for the newest skylake i7? 6700k
