Hi my friend has a "Dell XPS One 24" with 2 1g ram sticks. They are getting used up so I told him i'll try to get him 2 2gb sticks since thats the maximum im pretty sure.

I found this info on the pc:

* Module Size: 2GB
* Package: 240-pin DIMM
* Feature: DDR2 PC2-6400
# Chipset: Intel G45
# Maximum Memory: 4096MB
# USB Support: 2.x Compliant
# Standard Memory: 4096MB removable
# Slots: 2 (2 banks of 1)

Each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-6400 with a maximum of 2GB per slot.*

^ thats the default so i'm not sure what ram i should get him, but was thinking the 6400 since they are the fastest. Any help is appreciated, thank you!

i found that on dells and hp crucial memory works every time in them. run the crucial memory advisior and look at the part number of the kits that come up and then check online for the lowest price. when swapping the ram make sure you unplug the pc from the wall. let the mb drain so you dont short the mb or ram out. ram dimms are keyed and go in only one way.

Based on Crucial's site you are right on target. http://www.crucial.com/upgrade/Dell-memory/XPS/XPS+One+24-upgrades.html

I have never seen a manual before that didn't list all those specs. Those XPS manuals suck.

That kit is 1.8 - 1.9V. Might just be fine, but it's safer to get the straight 1.8V if possible.

Yes, I first started helping people heavily on these boards after I did my own research for a new system just as P45 was released. I had dropped in occasionally for a few years prior, but that was when it became a real hobby.

My first built PC had a Cyrix 80mhz CPU. About 19 years ago now.
