Ok first I am new to this some what. I have a Intel Pentium 2117U and wanting to upgrade to a i5-3210M ( AW8063801032301) A system read from cpu-z gives me this info. CODE NAME -ivy bridge, PACKAGE- socket 988b rpga, SOUTHBRIDGE-hm76. I have a few questions, I am getting conflicting information but i am so green to this I am not sure if it matters but my scene kicks in and says something may be wrong. Under Sockets Supported I am getting FCPGA988 and FCBGA1023 do these make the difference if it will fit? My laptop is a Asus s500ca

Yes one can upgrade, but things that one should look upon is socket compatibility , BIOS/motherboard compatibility, chipset compatibility. You can search http://www.cpu-world.com/ for your compatibility checks but do confirm with your manufacturers as it is seen that sometimes cpu gets compatible physically but BIOS fails to recognize them. Good Luck
