There are several low end mobo/cpu combos using soldered sockets, the successor to the Bobcat e-series cpu is the jaguar which is also soldered.

@OP, sorry, but my advice is you can't upgrade the cpu and even if it was possible, for the ft1 bga socket, the best you could do would be the 1.7GHz e-2000, which really isn't any kind of upgrade at all.
Considering the uber-slim form factor of your gateway case, you will run into many problems when it concerns upgrades, everything from hdd to gpu to psu is all based around the ATX platform, M-itx being the micro version, E-atx being the expanded version, but still with ATX at the center. Pretty...

is a dektop computer. I dont think is soldered. You are referring to the laptop with the E-300

i'm struggling to find much info for the system and i guess the mobo info i found was for a laptop version. i don't see that system or anything like it with any other cpu but the one you have.

normally you can find various models with a range of cpu's to give you an idea what can be used but i'm not finding anything other than the e1-1200 in that system.

my honest opinion is to just save up and get a better computer. No point in getting a CPU, since the system is kind of old.

yeah, is kind of tough because when you search that mobo model is comes with the E-1200 soldered. but it doesnt tell you anything else, not even what socket it is for. no much info on the desktop either.

the socket i found for it was this by searching for the mobo http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Aspire-x1430-D1F-AD-DESKTOP-motherboard-for-ACER-DDR3-E350-e300-APU/412038_711490225.html it says socket is e350 which i have never heard of.

amd has it listed as FT1 BGA http://products.amd.com/en-us/DesktopAPUDetail.aspx?id=42

everything i am finding for this socket says it is soldered on. i am confused as i have never seen a desktop with a soldered cpu but i don't see anything that says otherwise.

i'm leaning toward my first guess which is that the cpu can't be replaced based on what i have read. it is a pretty small case ( 14.9" x 3.9" x 10.4") and it may just be designed this way for the small foot print

i learn something new everyday and this seems to be my new piece of info for today :)

Pretty much, those slim gateways and dell's wee designed for small office, where gpu power and fast cpu wasn't as necessary as storage space for files.

I'd call it a day, and start saving for a new computer that fits your needs, trying to rescue this pc is a lost cause.
