Need Help Upgrading Ram

Need help upgrading my current ram, i only have 4gb rams in my current comp

im going up to 8gb and on my mother board i have 4 slots for ram, the current set up is 4 1gb sticks

now my question i really wanted to know is do i need to have 4 2gb ram sticks for best performance or can i have 2 4gb ram sticks and it will be fine

my computer is from dell its a inspirion 570 the motherboard for this comp is a 4GJJT AMD Motherboard

i have upgraded hardware on this comp before

current cpu is phenom II x4 965

gpu is radeon hd 7770

psu is 600w corsair

any help will be appreciated

It doesn't really matter. I believe it's what you prefer. Keep in mind with some motherboards to use 2 sticks they must be in certain slots. (Usually 1 and 3)
