Picked these up for an upgrade to my system. Before i tear everything down, i wanted to reach out for advice.

My current setup is a Aorus b450 pro wifi MOBO, with a ryzen 9 5900x CPU. when upgrading to this cpu, i had a boot error that was due to an out of date BIOS. i bought a cpu, installed all the latest bios , and everything worked flawlessly from then on.

I’m now upgrading to a Ryzen 9 9900x cpu. this requires a new motherboard. the b650 Elite MOBO which has a AM5 cpu socket, so this is what i bought. i also bought 4x 16gb Ram sticks DDR5.

my question is, am i going to run into any boot errors? should i install something using my old setup before tearing everything down? i don’t want to have to buy a shitty AM5 cpu to temporarily put in to update whatever is needed like i had to do when upgrading to my 5900x.
any help is appreciated. THANKS

Most b450s require a BIOS update
The b650s come ready for the processor you get, so don't worry, you won't need anyone else cpu to update the bios.
The only thing I see that you made a mistake is that for 64GB of memory you took 4 sticks, when it would have been better to take 2x32GB.

Really? i my old setup was 2x32gb sticks and i was crucified for it. I was told to get 4x16 sticks and it would be better.

2x32 helps you if you later want to add 2 more sticks and go to 128 gb
Every choice has its pros and cons.
If you don't see it yourself, you can't understand it.
I have a computer with a 5900x and F4-3600C14D-32GVK (2x16) below in my signature.
Further down in spoiler I have one with 5700x and F4-3200C15D-16GVK (4x8GB)
I'm really happy to spend more hours with the second one, regardless of whether the first one is more powerful due to the processor, the second one is incredibly fast.

There could easily be B650 boards that do not have the bios revision for a 9900x. A bios update will most likely need to be done.

OP: Just make sure you get a board that has bios flashback capability.

If wears a bios before Aug 14, 2024 (something I find a little difficult), then yes , might need it.
