Hey guys, I am looking to do a rather big upgrade soon, and need some help!

I currently have:

  • Intel 3470
    TurboOC GTX960 (4GB)
    2x4GB DDR3 1066MHZ + 1x8GB 1066MHZ
    Gigabyte B75-D3V
    NZXT S340

I am looking to upgrade my RAM, and processor. This will probably require a new motherboard and cooling solution. I amen't on a huge budget, looking to spend about £450/$600.

I am currently running 2 Moniters, with only one being 1080p, both having a refresh rate of 60HZ, will look to upgrade to 144HZ in the future. Having high clock speed RAM was recommended for getiing 144FPS+ on Overwatch (Play competitively), so that would be a goal. I would also like to be able to run games like A3 well (Can do it currently just a bit choppy with modpacks!)

Regards, James

This upgrade probably won't make much of a difference to your frame rates. Your current processor is still fine, although it is getting a bit old. You might be better off sticking with what you have and picking up a GTX 1070. You'll notice a massive improvement in frame rates. You could even add in some faster RAM, but the speed increase won't make a massive difference.

Here's a CPU upgrade. It's not hugely superior to what you currently have, but if you get an overclock on it, it'll be pretty fast. It also has the advantage of supporting faster DDR4 RAM.

This is what I'd do. A better graphics card and some slightly faster RAM. Your CPU may bottlneck the GPU a bit, but you'll still be getting very high frame rates.

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking more of the County for two reasons. I need a new motherboard to support higher Ram clock speeds anyways, people who play Overwatch have said that increasing Ram speed led to like 50fps increase with similar hardware to mine. And also since I am looking to play CPU intensive games like Arms 3 I figured since my current card I'd pretty new and 4gb it would be ok

If you want a new CPU go for it. A 6600k should be able to last you quite a few years and you can get much faster RAM for it. Your current GPU is fine for games like Overwatch. Even with faster RAM you probably won't be able to get 144FPS, but you can still get decent FPS.
