i'm not going to be running sli , I don't know anything about OC'ing, want a reliable newbie friendly board ( first build).

also, what HD ( not going to raid) should i throw in here? I've heard raptor is not worth it.

Thats an awesome mobo, but if your not oc'ing its major overkill. I would get a vanilla P5B or P5B-E.

STAY AWAY FROM APEVIA POWER SUPPLIES!!! If you listen to just one thing I say let it be that. There the bottom of the barrel, you cant get a lower quality psu. Get this psu instead, same price range, more power, MUCH better quality.

That one is ok, it has slightly more power on the +12v rail (42 instead of 40), but the Corsair psu is better quality wise. Plus, the Corsair psu is quieter, has modular cabling, and has a longer MTBF.

The components you have picked (except for the Apevia) will all work together just fine.
apt403 is right about both the motherboard and the psu.
You can shift some of the $$$ around and get a faster, reliable system that's perfect for a gaming fiend:

You will not need an additional cpu cooler, the stock one works fine. You can always add one later. Case choice is very good but pricey.
