Hey all,
I can be pretty dense when it comes to the insides of a tower, but I recently purchased a system from PC CASE GEAR. I have tried playing BF4, Crysis 3 and farcry 3 which all have quite horrible frame skips when i play. I can play dayZ but on relatively ok settings and get about 22-26FPS. I love gorgeous graphics and was hoping it was just something I could upgrade to help me out.
I have;
Intel core i5-4440 3.10GHz
8 GB RAM
R9 280X BLACK 3GB DDR5

Thanks :)

Don't listen to what the person above said, the R9 280X is a very good GPU.
You should be getting a smooth 60+ fps on BF4 on max settings, Crysis 3 and Farcry 3 are more demanding.
What's your PSU? + Motherboard, And how long have you had this stuff for? Could be faulty.

Hey Thanks for the replies!
Ive had it for about 5 days now :/ so was a little disappointed really lol.

it is a GIGABYTE H87-D3H "ultra durable motherboard' (LGA 1150)
PSU is a silverstone Strider Plus 750W (model number SST-ST75F-P)

Both of those should be fine for your setup, I've never used either of them so I can't really comment on how they perform haha.
But if you have time, could you try starting up BF4 on test range, set it to Ultra, and turn v-sync off.
Press ` to bring up the CC while in game, and then type "perfoverlay.drawfps 1" and that'll show you your fps in the corner.
Try to estimate your average FPS from that as well as your max and min. :)

Done and done!
Average was 7 FPS
lowest it hit was 5
highest was 12
vertical sync was off stats were ultra 🙁

JESUS!
When you said low FPS I was expecting 30-40fps!
There is definitely something wrong here, I'd say it's a manufacturing fault, you're not running the game at 4K resolution are you haha? Your drivers are up to date?

That's what you should expect from your card, he even mentions that he normally gets an extra 5-15fps from the card while not recording!

I would ring up and complain, and then return the system for a full refund because unless some drivers are missing, or windows isn't working correctly, something must be faulty.

hahaha No oldschool 1080 lol. It seemed to struggle on normal which is when i thought something was wrong. Well if that video is any indication you must be right. I will give them a call tomorrow. thank you very much for helping me with this you've been great!

I was looking in the system settings and in display adapters apparently i have also got Intel HD Graphics 4600 as well, this would be taking over in anyway would it?

No problem! happy to help 😀

As for the Intel GPU, that's interesting, your pc could be using that card instead of the R9 280X. Try downloading GPU-Z and running that, it'll show you some basic info about your gpu.

Its showing both cards in a dropdown menu if i click the sensors tab up the top it has the
intel 4600 gpu core clock at 600.0 MHz and gpu Memory clock at 800.0 MHz

and I change to the AMD and its showing 0.0 for both.

Well, I'm thoroughly confused haha. I'd still ring up the shop and essentially tell them everything you've told me. Maybe they can give you more tips, or at least replace the parts. I'm thinking either your PC isn't using the R9 280X card, or some part of the PC is faulty.
Maybe look up a tutorial on how to set a card as the default? That's the best I can think of at the moment haha.

But you have your monitor connected to the 280, right?
And your primary display adapter is which one?

Sooooo I feel like the biggest idiot in the world! I only saw one hdmi slot in the back and just went for it without thinking.....
its connected properly now with bf4 getting 80 FPS and crysis runs on very high im so happy and amazed at my stupidity. thank you all for everything. 😀
