Need help with $1,000 Gaming build

Hello, I'm looking spend ~$1000 on a new gaming build:

Approximate Purchase Date: Within a couple weeks


Budget Range: $900-$1100 before rebates


System Usage from Most to Least Important: gaming, media, surfing the web


Parts Not Required: keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers, OS


Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg

Overclocking:Maybe


SLI or Crossfire: Probably sli


Monitor Resolution:1920x1080


Additional Comments: I want this mostly to just be a good gaming pc that will last me a few years. I'd like to spend $900-$1100 so whatever gets me a good value I'd go with. I might go with a stronger gpu at first, and add another one later on. Either way...dual 560's or single card, you can't go wrong. It's a tough call on that one.

so it would be a good idea to go with the gtx570 now so then when I wanna upgrade in the future just get another one instead of splurging for something better than 560 x2?

I would. I mean a single 570 is a strong card. If you feel you need more later on you have the option to get another.

My first suggestion is a single GPU. For a $1000 budget, get a good single double card. The second is 8 GB of ram.

That should put you about $800 - $850. I would also spend a little more on the case. If you like the HAF series, pick up a 932 advanced or HAF X on sale (they are constantly on sale).

Then after a month or six, decide if you need the extra GPU. Two SAPPHIRE 100312-3SR Radeon HD 6950 Dirt3 Edition 2GB cards would make an extreme gaming machine (assuming you can keep it cool).

if you want to include an ssd in your build i suggest that you either expand your budget to $1250 and get at least 120gb model to start with... or if your budget is already maxed out you can hold off buying an ssd first... save more money an get a 120gb capacity as 60gb is certainly not enough to play with... after install OS you won't have much space left.... you will regret by then why not get a larger one...

since you want to do sli is better to have plenty of power to spare from your psu... a good one should last a few builds... you never know how much your pc will use if you do sli and overclocking at the same time... just remember... do not save money on buying a cheaper but compromise on quality or lower wattage psu unless you are going to stick on one vga card only... the model that i've listed above can definitely runs gtx 570 sli and have much to spare...

the reason why i choose this casing which is much more expensive than your selected ones is because it comes with all included fans(8 fans to be exact)... and also it is larger and easier to work with.... and not to mention you can fit just about anything without neccesity to remove hdd cage... with this case you don't have to worry any upgrade in the future... you can even fit radiator up to 360mm at the top of the case(if you wanna try some water cooling)...

Not bad, but you could combo a few things.

But this is like the second or third time I have caught you recommending 1.65v RAM. I don't know how many times I have to post this, but these socket 1155 boards are made for low voltage RAM...like EVERY manufacture of these boards states. 1.5v or less.

I am currently useing that PSU.

I will make a note: All the cables with the molex/sata power only have one molex at the end. So you have 4 molexs, 1 at the end of the cord each.

Ofc there are adapters from sata to molex :)

what i'm trying to say is his/her money can be spent on better stuffs... i don't know what is so different about it... and of course i know this is his/her build... he/she did ask for whether this is a good deal... and i'm trying to say here there is better deals out there...
