Hello!

I was thinking about finally replacing my cheap Athlon64 system with something wth a little more... power.

So i got a list of components that i could get:

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 3.2GHz
MB: Asus M4A77T
RAM: 2x Kingston HyperX 2GB DDR3-1600 9-9-9-27
GPU: Asus HD 6950 1GB GDDR5
PSU: Corsair TX650 V2
Case: a (very) cheap ATX CCC-ML2

So i wanted to ask if these components would go together because i'm not really experienced with building custom rigs and maybe someone could suggest some better parts for the same money :)

Thank you for your replies!

And another thing: should i get the MSI 770-C45 or maybe an Asus M4A77T?

Edit: also found an Asus HD 6950 1GB for ~18$ more. Should i get it instead?

For that, an i3 2100 will perform a lot better. AMD Quad Cores are better only in heavy multitasking.

I can post an i3 2100 build if you don't mind.

Processor : Intel Core i3 2100 - Dual Core - 65W - 32nm LGA1155 Sandy Bridge - $124.99
Motherboard : ASRock H67M (B3) LGA 1155 Intel H67 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 - $79.99
Graphics Card : XFX HD-695X-ZNFC Radeon HD 6950 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 - $209.99
RAM : Corsair 2 x 4GB DDR3 1333Mhz Dual-Channel Memory - $45.99
Storage : Seagate Barracuda ST31000524AS 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s - $59.99
Optical Drive : LG DVD R/W - $19.99
PSU : Corsair CX500 V2 500W - $59.99
Case : Your Choice - Rosewill Backbone Plastic/Steel ATX Mid Tower - $39.99

Total : $640 after rebates

The i5 2400 costs $60 more and is worth the extra cost.

OK thanks, i'll check it out, maybe even get it :)

BUT the question remains: Will my system work? (Will the components live with each other w/o probs?)

Also i really wanted to stick to an AMD CPU, i don't really know why. It feels like Intel CPUs are heavily overpriced. :p

Another question: would an ASRock H61M-VS go together well with an i3-2100 and 2x 4GB DDR3-1333? (and the other components ofc)

SO...

Right now i've come to a system that looks something like this:

CPU: Intel Core i3-2100 3.1GHz
RAM: 2x Corsair XMS3 4GB DDR3-1333
GPU: Asus HD 6950 1GB GDDR5
MB: ASRock H61M-VS
PSU: Corsair TX650 V2
Case: The same cheap 20$ ATX
HDD: Already have a nice one :)

Is this any good?

Ok, thanks a lot. So in the end i decided to spend a bit more and just get the i5-2400 and the rest of the system described above. Wish me luck :D
