I am on a tight budget as far as upgrading. I am torn between AMD 64 2800+ and 3000+. There is about a $20 difference in price with the 3000+ being more. Is the difference in performance worth the additional cash?

200mhz difference, i think it's worthy to get the 3000+. Very very tight budget? I'd recommend the S939 3000+ Winchester now, pair it up with a MSI Nforce3 board, or if really tight budget, an Abit VIA board.

3000 is worth it, 939 3000 is not.
you are forced to use MSI as the best board, it costs 40 dollars more, the chip cost 40 dollars more, the chipset only works well if you have dual set of ram....
kv8 pro is 105 dollars shipped in retail box, 3000 is whatever you find it as, both make for a very fast gaming machine.

(i have one! just have 1 gig of ram so it even works better than it did with 512. I run faster than a p4 3.0 ghz, and a heck of a lot cooler..... its the thing to get right now for power for dollars, intel or amd fanboy's whatever, its best deal for the dollar. I recommend 754, but if you can, afford the 939 so long as you dont get a crap board with problems (msi does that often)

Anandtech awarded the K8N Neo2 Platinum with the editor's choice award...

I agree with the fact that it has dual channel ram compatibility problems. But Micron rams does great, and Samsung's seems to work good as well.

So if you get the s939 3000+ and want to overclock it, get the msi Nforce3 board with micron or samsung ram. They do cost a decent amount more, but the 3000+ is almost guranteed to reach 2.5-2.6Ghz, which i think is very worthy.
