Hello, today i bought i7-6700 non K, i also bought Asus H110M-C D3 with it (it was the only option)
The motherboard is LGA 1151 and it supports DDR3 RAM not DDR4, a friend of mine told me i wouldnt bother hooking i7 6700 with that motherboard cause it can f**k it up, he said it has something to do with voltages, he said only certain DDR3L boards are secure to use, is that true? did i f**k up? or can i use the i7 6700 on Asus H110M-C D3 without an issue? it has all the ports and stuff i need. and yes i will be gaming, will be using RX 480 when i have enough cash.
Thanks!

Solution
As long as you ensure you use DDR3L (low voltage), you'll be fine. The increased voltage of 'normal' DDR3 is where the issues arise - 'normal' DDR3 would work, but it's not recommended as it can do damage to the memory controller with sustained use.

is this an issue with all the LGA 1151 motherboards that have DDR3 support rather than DDR4 or is it just this specific motherboard? (Asus H110M-C D3)

got it, so i found a 1.35V DDR3L 1600Mhz ram, its crucial ballistix tactical low profile ram, will it be safe to use it for a long run? ~ (8 months)? or will it damage the IMC overtime too? heres the RAM.

Thanks so much you helped me alot, one final question, this motherboard (H110M-C D3) wont limit power of i7 6700 anyhow right? frequency/turbo/cores/threads wise?

No. The H110 chipset is limited in features, but it won't limit your CPU from boosting or using all of it's cores/threads.
The only CPU limiting aspect of the H110 would be lack of overclocking support - but with a locked CPU, that's not a concern for you.

You're fine.
