I just got everything I need to build a computer. I get it all built and it turns on. Then turns right back off. I have followed step by step guides to build it. Made sure every connection is good. Thermal paste is fine and as far as I know. My power supply is enough. What could be wrong?

Intel i7 - 8700
Gigabyte Z270P-D3
EVGA Geforce GTX 1060
EVGA 500 watt supply
Deep cool gammaxx 400 fan.

wrong CPU or motherboard mate. the 8700 CPU requires an 3 series chipset, ex. z370.
the motherboard is for a 6th or 7th generation intel CPU like the i7 6600k or 7700k or the i3 6100/7100. the 8 series will not work
they have the same socket and pin count and that makes it confusing
"Supports 7th/ 6th Generation Intel® Core™ Processors" from the site here
https://www.gigabyte.com/us/Motherboard/GA-Z270P-D3-rev-10#kf

So if I understand correctly, you're saying my motherboard and CPU are compatible? I would need to switch out one or the other with something that is compatible with each other.

right, one or the other needs to be changed with a suitable part.
either a 6 or 7th gen intel CPU or a mobo that supports the 8th gen CPU.

Thanks! This makes so much sense.

If it makes you feel any better, I think a lot of people are annoyed that Intel's requiring a new chipset for the 8 series processors. It looks like Gigabyte has a Z370 version of the same motherboard you bought, and at least on Amazon it appears to be basically the same price: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077Y5JBQ5/ref=psdc_1048424_t1_B01N2V0AHI

I just did a quick google so doublecheck me and make sure that's what you need, but hopefully you won't have any trouble returning your current motherboard and getting the new one.

Unfortunately i am going to have to sell this motherboard because I lost the things necessary to be aligible to do an exchange or return. Thanks tho
