Hi all,

I'm building a cheap machine that uses the H81M-DGS R2.0 motherboard and I wanted to put an internal speaker inside of the chassis for when I want to listen to music etc.

Can someone confirm if the 4 pin SPEAKER1 port on the motherboard is adequate for me to do this? If not, what ways can I go about installing a speaker? If it can be used, can anyone recommend an internal speaker for me to use?

Many thanks,

Chris

That internal speaker port is for attaching the kind of speaker that only beeps error tones, and probably wouldn't work for anything like playing music. It would likely be possible to hook something up to the "HD_AUDIO 1" pins though, which would normally connect to a 3.5mm headphone jack on the front of a computer case. Or just plug something into the external 3.5mm audio ports on the back of the motherboard if you're not using them for external speakers, and route the cords back into the case if you really want the speakers inside for some reason. I would definitely recommend directing the speakers through an opening if installed inside the case though, since otherwise they probably wouldn't sound very good.
