Need help with File Explorer

my file explorer is not working at all. Every time I go to open a folder or anything in the file explorer it loads for a min then says "File Explorer(Not Responding)" So I can't access most of my computers apps unless I know them by name and can search them in the bar on the start menu. it also prevents me from accessing photos, docs, or any item in file explorer. I have to send myself an email from my phone just to change my wallpaper.

open command prompt (admin)
type SFC /scannow and press enter
once its completed, copy/paste this command into same window:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth and press enter
SFC fixes system files, DISM cleans image files, re run SFC again if it failed to fix all files the first time, and restart PC

try running hdtune on drive(s) and check its health tab for any warnings
check you have latest sata drivers for motherboard, could also be drivers maybe
what ssd/hdd do you have?

I have a wd 4tb hard drive

Download and run datalifeguard for windows, its made by WD to check their drivers - https://support.wdc.com/downloads.aspx?lang=en

Run short and long test.

alright so it worked, then I clicked image catalog within file explorer and it stopped responding again. I closed and then tried opening file explorer again and it was back to not responding

Try doing a clean boot and see if its still slow - https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows
if its not, it might be that a start up program is to blame, slowly add them to find cause.
