Hi. I'm planning on building a computer for some medium gaming and video editing and I need help choosing parts, so I was hoping someone could recommend me what to choose. I want to spend around $1500, but I can stretch it if I need to and lower is better, if possible.

I think I need an Intel i7 since it will be used for some animation and CAD work. I'm not sure what kind though, as my last two builds were low to mid end with an i3 and an i5. I will need a video card, so I'm leaning towards a mid-end Nvidia or AMD. I don't need to run high graphics settings and 4k when I game, so I think this should do. For storage, I think I will get a small SSD for an OS drive and a larger HDD for mass storage. I need some sort of optical drive, also. What motherboard and case would be able to tie this all together, and how big of a power supply would I need. And how much RAM? It should also have room for a sound card (I'm a bit of an audio guy). I should add that I will use the spare copy of Windows 7 I have, but I will Upgrade to Windows 10 when it's released.

Sorry if I sound a bit clueless; I've never built a PC for video editing, as my last two were gaming rigs. Please help me if you can. I don't need full build ideas (Though that would be great); I just need someone to point me in the right direction. Thanks!

Thanks! I have a few questions, though.

For one, I've heard that CPU runs hot. Am I going to need extra cooling?
Also, would I see benefits from using faster RAM or going 4 x 4GB?
Would this all fit in a smaller case? And do I need extra case fans?

I have a few questions still

For the graphics card, which of the following should I choose?

http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-video-card-gvn970g1gaming4gd
or
http://pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-video-card-gtx970gaming4g

Also, would the CPU cooler keep the i7 cool? I've heard it runs hot, so I wasn't sure if it was enough and if the Mugen 4 would fit in this build.

Will this fit in a case that isn't Full Tower ATX? And will I need extra case fans?

And I assume I'll need a 750+ W Power Supply

Thanks for the help so far guys!

Ok, thank you! But your PSU link is to the fans.
