NEED HELP WITH General understanding of Gaming rigs

Im currently putting alot of effort into getting a general understanding of a gaming computer system, primarily; komponents, software and building
- Though somehow, i can't seem to figure out how to rate GPU's; should i be looking Ghz at which it's performing, or should i on the otherhand be more worried about the dedicated RAM, etc. etc.
- EG. will i be able to run Battlefield 4 on somewhere close to ULTRA settings with a Geforce GTX 680 Asus 4 GB? Yes or No? If yes, how come that be - If no, why not?

A 680 will run anything I've heard of at Ultra high settings - it's a very powerful GPU, more powerful that the latest 7970 from AMD, at stock clock it's better than the 760 and slightly behind the 770
