I have an MSI gtx 970 that im trying to install. The 6 and 8 pin power connectors wont go in because of the small plastic latch they have. The plastic latch is on the bottom side of the connector and there is a metal plate on the graphics card beneath the slots so they cannot go in.

I received two new power connectors with the gpu but they're joined together.

My question is, do i have to replace the bit at the end of the power connectors and how?

or

Can i just snap off that small plastic latch on the current two?

Solution

no, dont force it or break the tabs

you dont need any adapters

you need to connect the pcie cables from the power supply directly to the gpu...
The GPU Power should be able to be plugged in without any issues because the latches. Of course you can only plug the cable in in one direction. The GPU power slot has a small bump on the side where the latch has to be. Make shure that you plug in a PCIe Power Cable and not an ATX-8pin Mainboard Plug that should offer extra power for the CPU. They are not compatible.
