Hello all, with all these new graphics cards coming out is it time for me to upgrade? Im still sporting my proud Evga Superclocked GTX 770. But alas some of the games I am starting to resort to medium settings (warhammer total war *cough cough*) (the settings used in warhammer is low, medium, high, and ultra). So im wondering, should I wait until the next gpu generation, or should I save up for the end of this year. (im currently going into college so I will be broke for quite a while). Any advice would be nice.

Sincerely, a guy sporting a wicked awesome AMD FX 8320 Black Edition (yeah thats right intel fanboys bring the hate XD) *PS I know its a older processor but it hasn't been holding back any of the recent titles I play.)

I bought a 8Gb RX 480 for a HTPC upgrade (honestly more than it needed, but happened to get it for $199):

And am beyond satisfied for 1080p. For gaming I had intended (and had been doing) streaming from the main machine, but now it is a complete stand-alone gamer. 1440p would be pushing it, but two of them would be solid (another advantage of the RX 480 as you can CrossFire it, but not the GTX 1060).....or for triple-monitor 1080p gaming if you're into that.

That said, the 1060 may be just a titch faster overall, but FreeSync monitors (I highly recommend an adaptive sync monitor...
For 1080p, a very affordable upgrade would be to look the RX 480 4Gb models for $200-$220. Availability should be growing over the next several weeks.

For a bit more money/performance, the GTX 1060's 6Gb would be worth a look.....same availability growing in the upcoming weeks.

RX 480/ gtx 1060 are great options for maxed settings 1080p 60 fps

your cpu will hold you back however

Why would my cpu hold it back? Its pretty much the equivalent of a Core i5 2500k, or is that just how far we have come in terms of gpu power. (sorry I have not been keeping up with the gpu side of things very well lol)

Oh and also I am only using for 1080p

no it isnt, i5's are vastly better especially something like a 2500k

a lot of times a i3 is faster for gaming than a 8350

warhammer is cpu bound

ummm you may want to update yourself http://www.game-debate.com/cpu/index.php?pid=1143&pid2=630&compare=fx-8320-vs-core-i5-2500k-3-3ghz

I wasnt trying in any way to sound rude in my previous post, but what you said about the i5 2500k being faster is definitely not the case. Sure in games that only use 4 cores the i5 may be better (due to the fx having weaker overall cores), but when it comes to later games that are coming out, the fx is starting to shine. As games evolve to make use of more core's, the fx shines even more.

Oh and one last thing, total war warhammer is a very gpu and cpu intensive game, I dare you to try and run the game on a GTX 670 (not fun). Hardly got 30 fps.

Overall I should buy a RX 480 then? Or should I weight and earn some cash and get a RX 490 when it comes out?

that website is utter trash

techincal info is useless when comparing between different architectures

OH LOOK! the 2500k is only 3.5ghz with only 4 cores, the 8350 is 4ghz and has 8!!! the 8350 MUST be better!

you NEED actual game/CPU benchmarks

so yeah, it's total garbage like gpu boss

Oh have you ever bothered reading? I ask this because that excact link even said and I quote "The FX-8320 and Core i5-2500K 3.3GHz are not from the same family of CPUs, so their clock speeds are by no means directly comparable. Bear in mind, then, that while the FX-8320 has a 0.2 GHz faster frequency, this is not always an indicator that it will be superior in performance, despite frequency being crucial when trying to avoid GPU bottlenecking. As such, we need to look elsewhere for more reliable comparisons."

yes i read it

"In terms of overall gaming performance, the AMD FX is marginally better than the Intel Core i5 when it comes to running the latest games. "

not even remotely true

it ( the FX ) will be less likely to bottleneck more powerful GPUs

not true

allowing them to achieve more of their gaming performance potential.

laughably untrue

and so the FX is likely to have better levels of support, and will be more optimized for running the latest games.

made me chuckle

that website is utter trash
and that is them comparing the 8320 to an i5 2500k

the very definition of fanboyism

holy moley

Let me correct u a bit, also trust me I'm not a fanboy, I have a core i5 4670k in one computer and a fx 8320 black edition in the other. In fact the reason my fx cpu has the gtx 770 is because it has better overall fps.

"In terms of overall gaming performance, the AMD FX is marginally better than the Intel Core i5 when it comes to running the latest games. "

Very remotely true, especially as more games start using more cores.

it ( the FX ) will be less likely to bottleneck more powerful GPUs

Very true in the future.

Never unproven

if your 4670k is getting worse fps than a 8320 with something so weak as a 770 then you have some serious issues you need to fix

Also:

it ( the FX ) will be less likely to bottleneck more powerful GPUs

Very true in the future.

No, bottlenecks them now and in the future as well
by the time a lot of dx12 and vulkan games come around, the FX will be so obsolete as not to matter
