Need help with hardrive

Just recently bought a new gaming pc. Although i only bought a 250 gb ssd because i was planning to use the old hard drive in my old computer, (1 tb). Can someone tell me the steps i need to take to transfer the hard-drive from my [strike]olc[/strike] old pc into my new one? Do i need to format and is there a guide online that i can follow? Thanks
