Question Need help with m.2 slot

I'm less experience with motherboards with built-in m.2 slot. I have this Asus Prime H270m-plus motherboard with two m.2 slots. One m.2 slot says PCIE x4 and the other says PCIE x2. My question is: does all built-in m.2 slot have same speed? Or does some m.2 slot have different speed base on motherboard specs? Because I want to get the most speed out of buying a m.2 nvme hard drive. If this h270m motherboard doesn’t support fast m.2 slot, then I might think about investing in a newer motherboard like the B350 Tomahawk.

Well, let me know what you guys think. If putting a Samsung 970 nvme into this Prime H270m will give me the same speed like the B450 Tomahawk, then maybe I should just keep the Prime H270m.

They aren’t all the same. The x4 slot will be faster than the x2 slot.

That being said, nvme isn’t that much faster than sata so better return on your money would be an 860 evo in m.2 form factor.

Ok. Is x4 the fastest I’ll find on a DDR4 motherboard? Or is there x16 out there?

The benchmark shows that the 970 m.2 nvme is double the speed comparing to the 860 m.2. Accurate??
