Hello

I've had to reformat a machine but unfortunately the owner didn't have the drivers with it. Windows at the moment will only let it run in 2 colours aswell.
I can see its a MS-6541 Ver 1.0 , and it has Presario 6000 on the front. I know it's a compaq machine but can anyone direct me to where I can get the correct drivers to get the machines graphics working, sound and anything else that is basic and pretty fundamental.
If I can't find the correct drivers is there anyway I can download something more generic and less specific that will work or any other way around it.

Thanks

no problem.

first you will notice that there is no compaq site, thats my favorite!

what you are going to need is the computer model number, "presario xxxx" and the motherboard number which you already have.

if i were you since you only have 2 colors and im guessing this is onboard video you will need to use another computer that is internet capable.
HP bought compaq so you will need to go to the HP site (Hewlet Packard) click on support, click on downloads, then type in the model number of your computer. presario xxxx. if the HP site does not have the drivers or all of the drivers (which they usually dont) you will need to use the motherboard manufacturer website.

since the model number starts with MS, its most likely an MSI or Intel motherboard. further inspection of the motherboard or googling the model number will tell who the manufacturer is. repeat step at that site for the rest or all of your drivers.

god i wish microsoft update actually worked! good luck. 8)

as near as i can figure
6000t celeron or p4
6000z amd athlon xp
6000ks p4
6000ea p4
if it has a place to keep cds on the front the model number may be in there.
good luck and let us know how it goes

Thanks all got everything sorted
Turns out it was actually a 6207EA using Everest but the 6000T drivers worked.
