Just built my pc, don't have an optical drive so I decided to use a flash drive to install windows.
Can anyone just quickly guide me through using rufus? A lot of stuff here I don't know and I am afraid I will mess up. Thank you. :)

Solution
Hello... Microsoft... they have 30-?? day free-trial on all their products... or you can use a pre-made Windows DVD and make a USB ISO from it.

What OS, and where are you getting it from?

http://microsoft-news.com/how-to-create-a-bootable-usb-drive-for-windows-10/

Step 1: Need to get the data off your install disk to an ISO file. There are plenty of tools to do that.
Step 2: get a blank thumb drive.
Step 3: start up rufus and point it at the ISO file as the source, and then the thumbdrive as the destination.
Step 4: press start. rufus does the rest.

Hello... 1) basically you need to format your USB stick to FAT32 and click the box that says "make bootable"
2) De-power/shutdown
3) power up to BIO's and change boot order for USB above the hardrives ( save&exit )
4) power down and insert USB stick.
5) power up and see if Rufus OS is loaded.

*** any Windows version can make a Bootable OS USB too... using the format APP... just to give you an idea how it works and not Rufus dependent in your Install procedure... The ISO to USB/DVD Microsoft APP can format your USB and make it bootable too... a lot of options here for you making the USB install media.

"Step 1:" ????

For "Create a bootable disk using:" which one do I select? Iso image, MS-DOS, FreeDOS, or DD image? Also how many passes?

Hello... will this help? http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows7/a/install-windows-7-usb.htm
Save/create on another computer.

The "ISO" file needs to go through a conversion first... Sometimes just right clicking on the .ISO will give you some conversion options, depending on the OS. The ISO to USB/DVD Microsoft APP will do it all for you... format fat32, make bootable, and convert... Rufus is cool thing too to use and practice with... I have used the OS to flash firmware.

You can download the ISO from MS
There are various ways to generate a bootable USB from that ISO
To install and activate the OS, you need to purchase a valid license key.

Again...where are you considering purchasing this from?
(if you say some dude on reddit, I'm out of the conversation)
