Hey guys,

I am planning on buying a new video card and processor. My motherboard is not really new, it's the Asus A8N-E Socket 939. It says that it can hold a x16 size video card. Now, i wanted to get the 8800 GTS and was wondering if my motherboard would hold it. Because my motherboard is really old, like 2-3 years and even though it says that it can hold x16 slot size video card i just wanted to be sure that it would hold a newer video card.

As for the processor i know i will have to buy a socket 939 processor so i dont have any questions on that.

Thanks in advance.

The 2.8 will be faster for single threaded application while the 2.4 dual core will run multiple apps smoother and faster than a single that has to be share between multiple apps, but will be a little slower for single apps.

While application and game will eventually support multi core processor, right now, unless multitasking a lot, there is no real advantage for dual core.

But, if you plan to keep your system a while, the dual core will be able to follow with newer apps.

So, get the dual core. Even if your system is "old", it will be more than enough for a while, as right now, hardware outpaced the software developpement. I have a 4600+ X2 (2.4 Ghz) and it is really sufficient and fast for all that I need. I stopped spending on faster hardware until software will be up to date with fast, efficient and optimized code for modern hardware. But the older single core computer installed base is still high and software business dont want to risk loosing customer and money by creating software that will only run well on higher machine. This should last again a couple of years
