Question Need Help with my external Harddrive

I have a seagate 4tb external slim hard drive and it was working fine but as Im transferring some large files to the hard drive

I get this error where its saying the device malfunctioned and the port is asking for more power than its allowed and then the drive isnt even readable

I recall this happened a while ago when I didnt use this drive for a while but after like a week it was fine

Whats causing the issue and how can I fix it?

IDeally would love to add a 10tb drive to my desktop but idk how to do that either 🙁

I didnt even know that was a thing, I googled the difference between the USB's and found out my desktop has ONE usb3 one and my external is using USB 3 and ITS WORKING!!!

But it doesn't seem to work with my macbook's connector still? (it was working fine before)

yea, USB3 can provide more power then usb2 but not all manufacturers give you the max power which may be the mac's issue.
They do make a y cable for extra power if youhave nother USB port close by on the mac. Something like:

It was working for ages before though, today was the first time it didn't work, which is super odd
