Need Help With New Grpahics Card

About a week ago, I bought an EVGA NVIDIA GeForce GT 740 SC 2GB GDDR5 graphics card. The drivers are installed and TECHNICALLY working. By that, I mean when the new graphics card is plugged into the mobo by itself, there is no display on the monitor. However, when I have the VGA port of the OLD graphics card into my monitor and the new graphics card plugged into the HDMI of a different monitor, the new graphics card works with no problems. Is there any way to have the new graphics card work without having to have the old graphics card plugged in?

go into the bios and set the primary graphics adapter to the gt 740
