I’m still new to pc but in need of an upgrade I don’t know what to do about the motherboard psu and cpu. Rn i have a 1060 3gb, asus rog crosshair v formula z, a corsair tx850 and a fx8150. So pretty old components and i need to get them changed so i can give it to my brother, any recommendations on what i keep what i change, i do know that i need to change my mb my cpu and my ram just to have a better cpu. Sorry if i am asking for a lot but i kinda need it budget, y’know something that would future proof it and give it a bit of an upgrade but without spending a lot or getting disowned, thanks in advance.

Looked up the cpu and got Ryzen 3 3100 is this the same thing?

Get the 3300X and a B550 mobo if you can find one at the same price of a B450 (since they're the same model just different generations). B550 has pcie gen 4. So that will keep you future proofed for when you get a stronger CPU either in the 3000 series or above. And you should have enough money to get 16GB of DDR4. I recommend any RAM kit with at least 3000MHz clock speed.

b550 boards are 70/80$ more expensive than their b450 equivalent, which isn't worth it with a tiny ryzen 3. Also, giving 300$ budget, he just can't. It's just better to get a ryzen 5 3600 than a b550 board.

That works too but with the money saved getting a 3300x he could save up quicker for a new graphics card which in the end will definitely yield better results in gaming FPS - and the B550 will allow for better upgradability for another CPU down the road. With the 3300X costing 100$ less it's a long term investment for both him and his brother for when he hands down that CPU too. Just my thinking OP - the 3300X practically has similar results in gaming FPS as a 3600 for half the price (but if you plan to encode or video edit then go for the 3600 instead).

I don't expect AMD to keep the compatibility up with ddr5 around the corner.
Anyway, B450 MAX boards have double the BIOS memory and should support 4000 series cpus

B450's will indeed support 4000 series at the cost of losing support for the 1000 series but either way OP won't need DDR5 since the performance gains won't be worth the early adopters costs anyway. So if you truly want to pick the cheapest options then a 3300X and a B450 will be cheapest and most dispensable when OP decides to upgrade again. But it does not have PCIe 4 which is currently being utilized by Nvidia and AMD. However if OP does not plan to get either Nvidia 3000 series or amd 5000 and 6000 series GPU's then B450 mobo is best choice for a low cost but is not good for upgradability like the B550. DDR5 is something to think about years later (DDR5 is being release around 2021, but will probably cost a lot at first).
