I'm fairly new to computer building, well not exactly new but I've been out of the loop for a LONG time. I purchased a used, custom built gaming PC last summer and it was running perfect until last night. I went to power it up, all the lights in the case flashed for half a second then went out and it won't boot. I press the power button again but this time nothing happens. If I unplug the CPU from the outlet and then plug it back in and press the power button again it'll flash again and then go out. Here's the troubleshooting I did last night...
-Switched the jumper from positions 1&2 to 2&3 and then back to the original position, won't boot
-Removed the CMOS battery and checked it (still good), won't boot
-Tried booting with no RAM, one piece of RAM, won't boot
-Removed the video card, won't boot.

I'm thinking it's either the PSU or motherboard. The motherboard is an Asus P8Z77-V PRO and the PSU is a XFX PRO850W Black Edition Full Modular PSU.

What do you folks think the issue could be? If it is the Motherboard what would be a good replacement/upgrade for it? Thanks folks!

this should be a pretty good quality psu, unless it's broken now.
may be ur mobo is damaged.
Waiting for other thoughts!~~~
