Alright, so I'm not great with computer hardware. I understand what everything does, but unfortunately I haven't invested a ton of time (in the past few years) into understanding the differences between the hardwares (I'm a software guy).
This computer will be used mostly for coding (no video editing as of now). I will run Windows 7 with Ubuntu on a VM. I will be doing coding through Marmalade (should be a piece of cake if the machine can run Ubuntu VM easily).
I also do web development so I need to be able to run a server (temporary at least). Once again, not a difficult task, but my point is I need the cores.
I will run 2 monitors (currently 1920x1200 and 1600x1440) but I do plan on getting a third.
I occasionally play games, but I will not overclock or do anything fancy (occasional Crysis/LoL). The primary roll is as a coding/temp server.
This is what I was thinking:
CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K (3.4GHz)
Mobo: Asus Z87-A (supports 4 RAM slots) (do I need a Wireless Card with this Mobo?)
RAM: Kingston HyperX Blu 2x4GB (upgradable to 16GB if I get 2 more sticks right (even though it's pretty unnecessary at the moment)?)
Primary Hard Drive: Sandisk 128GB (SDSSDP-128G-G25?)
Secondary: None at the moment, but will get one eventually (need a case that can support a 1-2TB disk) (I currently have a 640GB and 2TB external, so space is not an issue).
Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 660 (GTX660-DC2O-2GD5)
So now I need help with a case and a power supply. When I'm on planes I'll occasionally get a PC Mag or something similar. A couple years ago (I think), I saw an aluminum case that you could move the pieces around so you could fit any number of usb/other ports and put them wherever you want (so just about any mobo could fit). Does anyone know of this case? If not, I'm looking for something black/silver and sleek (preferably ~$100, but can go as high as $150). I don't need it to look fancy, just professional. And in terms of power supplies, does it really matter which one I get? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Matt
