So i had got a RAM upgrade recently and it is the ballsitix sport 4gb from crucial. The current set up i have is with that, but my last set up had some generic crucial 4gb RAM(heres the link to the exact one:http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/p8h61-m-lx/CT2601575) well i had tried to put these both together and my PC would not run GTA or any game infact with out blue srcreening due to memory management. I am wondering if the timing on the RAM is the cause of the problem. The ballistixs timing is 9-9-9-24 while the generic is CL11(really don't know what that means). If thats the case and it is whats messing up my system then it would be nice if someone can help me through this.

Mixing completely different ram just is not going to work...

Mixing completely different ram just is not going to work. If you want to upgrade the ram in your system at a minimum you need to buy another of the identical model RAM you had. Otherwise buy a full upgrade kit (ie for 8gb buy a 2x4gb kit). Anything else is not going to work.

Rogue Leader is bang on the money. Buying different modules with different timings is not a good idea. Not alone do you have the timings issue, you also have a voltage issue. These OC dimms use more voltage to achieve higher speeds. So you have both timings and voltage to consider with mixed dimms, but also whether they are single or dual ranked, and what memory chips are used (Samsung, Hynix etc)

It's always best advised to purchase a matched kit. Okay so you may have to sell your current ram to offset the cost, but it's better to do that than to buy two different sets and have serious compatibility issues.

You could try get them to work by setting the timings on the CL9 dimms to the same timings on the Slower CL11 dimms. You may need to trick around with voltage a little too. With that said, there is still a very high chance they just will not work together.

This is an oft asked question on this forum. Some people plug away and get an extra dimms, that doesn't match, or isn't a matched kit, and wonder why it doesn't work.
