Hey all,
I want to upgrade my rig's RAM further more. So which one should I go for? I prefer corsair vengeance and g skill.
8 gb single works with my mobo right?
Also what is the difference between G skill Aegis and Ripjaws x?
I am looking for 8 gb single (1600mhz).

My PC Specs:
Intel Core i5 2500k @ 3.3 Ghz.
Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD4 Motherboard.
Corsair RM 850 PSU.
Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600 Mhz 4 GB.
MSI Twin Frozr II GTX 560 TI (1 GB Stock fan removed, Using Corsair Hydro H60 water cooler)
Seagate Baracuda 1 TB Sata @ 7200 RPM.
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo Cooler for cpu. Corsair Carbide 400 R ATX Midtower Cabinet.

Thank you all

Hi,

I would go for Corsair (my personal favourite out of the two) but at the end of the day you won't notice the difference, both solid products.

Your Mobo & CPU can take up to 32GB Ram, so that means 8GB per slot - yes.

As for the difference, between the RAM Modules, there's really no difference between the two if you get the same clock speed (1600mhz).

If you are on a budget, I would recommend the cheapest Module of the 3 options, quickly checked on Newegg, and you are looking at:

Corsair Vengence: $ 36.99 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233298)
G Skill Aegis: $ 30.99 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820232140)
G Skill Ripjaws x: $ 33.99...

Mixing RAMs with

#Different manufacturer
#Different Speeds
#Different timing
#two sticks of the same manufacturer and model yet came separately

are some things I won't recommend. My suggestion is for you to sell your 4GB One and get a set of RAMs those come as a package (2X 4GB or 2X 8GB).

I took the most expensive Corsair (the timings are slightly better than the cheaper one 9-9-9-24 vs 10-10-10-27)

You have dual channel memory architecture therefore you want 2x4gb or 2x8gb RAM. If you buy only 1 module of 8GB you will lose about 20% ram boost what dual channel memory gives if you have 2 modules. Also like Nuwan Fernando mentioned, when you are buying 2 modules you would want to look for a kit, in other words 2 modules that comes packed together in a kit, they are guaranteed to work in a dual channel memory.

What you have mentioned are single RAM cards.
They will make trouble when dealing with your 4GB RAM.
For better compatibility you can try

Gskill sniper

Gskill Ripjaws (for better timing)

Corsair

Thanx.
So there's no problem if I use 4gb and 8gb one together as mentioned by nuwan fernando?

I prefer the same brand I have now, corsair vengeance 8 gb. Cheaper than g skill at my place.

It's not a problem, but you won't use dual channel memory and you will lose ram speed by 20%. Also they will run on the lowest speed of those rams, for example if 4gb ram is on 7cas and 8gb is 9cas, they will run on 9cas speed which is slower

Yes forgot about this issue. You can get this also, but what you have to understand is that even if you have 8gb and 4gb modules in your pc which is a total of 12GB is worse, 2x4GB = 8gb will work better and your pc will be faster using kit instead

So - I misunderstood what you want to do, if you just want to upgrade to 8GB total, then look for an identical RAM chip, or - sell the one you currently have, and buy 2 new 4GB Modules (will be at least 20% faster than 1 8GB module).

If you are going to buy new modules, I would personally recommend going to 16GB, some games can use tons of RAM (Dota2 on my PC uses around 4.7GB Ram).

I hope this helps.

OK, Thanx, btw, by kit u mean 2 sticks of same memory right? Or anything else?

Damn loss of 20% memory is too much. First time I heard this about this thing. 7 cas and 9 cas slot names? If yes any idea to identify which ones which? Placing 8gb in faster helps? I don't want to sell 4gb ATM. Damn this is confusing.

Yes by kit we ment 2 sticks of the same latency speed and same memory and preferably same manufacturer. Try to buy exactly the same 4gb module that you have in your pc right now. With the same latency and manufacturer. Placing faster 8gb in your pc won't help since you won't have that 20% more speed from your dual channel.

Exactly what Proofy said - you need to get an Identical one that you have in your PC currently.

Ah. OK then 4 gb it is. Wanted 8 gb though, but don't have budget to buy 2x8 ATM. Hmm currently I don't think any games require more than 8gb memory, do they? If yes name some.
Also intending of GPU addition, a sli+sli maybe. But that's another question. For now this is all I need.

Thank you all for ur wise suggestions.:)

Nah, battlefield 4 is the most ram hungry game out there atm and it sucks close to 6GB ram so you should be good. I wouldn't advise you sli+sli. Some games doesn't utilize SLI at all. Single gpu is in most cases better unless you do video editing
