need help with RAM

i am building a pc for my girlfriends dad all he plays is minecraft and i ahve 3 8 gig sticks two are dual channel and one is just in there to be there pretty much so i took it out to use it and it worked i went to turn my pc on had no display and once i put that stick back in the display came off so my question is why does my pc register taht as the first ram even though its set up in my second dual channel slot and my dual channel is in slot 1 and 3

Well depending on how many memory sticks you fit even or odd.

Determines what memory mode the motherboard sets.

For example two memory stick placed in the correct two memory slots, in the right order of slot positions would tell the motherboard to switch to dual channel memory mode.

But if you placed a third memory module in the motherboard so any three out of the four memory slots were populated.
You will get single channel memory mode.

The board cannot run two types of memory mode at the same time, it has to be either a dual channel configuration or a single channel configuration so two memory modules is dual.

Add a single stick and it has to revert to single channel memory mode.
Add a fourth memory stick it is set back to dual channel memory mode.

Odd and even.

how would i be able to give him one of my extra sticks would i have to take one of my dual channels off the 3rd card i ahve a biostar ta970 and i ahvfe both yellows and i tried takign teh one out of my black slot that caused my pc to freak out
