Need help with steam

Just installed a fresh copy of windows 7 and the sp1 update. Installed all my required drivers. But when i installed steam and tried to run steam for the first time it just won't detect my internet. It keeps saying "steam needs to be online to update" i need any sort of suggestion or fixes. Thanks

okay so i checked the logs and it said something about a code "http error 0"
