Question Need help with sudden memory failure

I built my PC in November 2019 with 2 x 8GB GSkill 3600 DDR4 memory and have had no problems until now. In the past couple of days I have noticed a drop in performance in several games but only today I realized in task manager that the system memory was showing as 8gb instead of 16gb. Strangely CPUZ shows that I have 16gb installed but both the bios and task manager say otherwise. After trying different slots I have found that one of the two sticks does not work in any of the memory slots. When the memory stick that doesn't work is inserted in any of the slots, the pc fails to boot. The other memory stick works fine in every slot. The only major thing I have done recently is completing a Memtest86 test which resulted in 0 problems so I have no idea what has resulted in the memory failure. The ram was operating at custom timings at 3200mhz and had xmp enabled but those bios settings have been enabled for the past two months. Any advice on fixing the memory without completing a rma is appreciated.

If you are certain that this module is even acting finicky, I would rma it. It will eventually go out anyways and if you're out of warranty at that time, you're sol.
GSkill has a limited lifetime warranty for ram but my only problem with rma is that GSkill asks for both ram modules to be sent in the rma. Since I have no other PC or other ram and will need to use my pc over the summer the rma would not be possible. Should I just send the one stick?

Ah, that is a bit of an issue. Well, I'd just pick up a cheap (slower) used set to tide you over until you get the other set back from rma. Or you could just buy another set and then sell yours when it comes back from rma as bnib.
