[SOLVED] Need help with upgrades

Hey everyone,

Looking to upgrade my HP tower and have no idea how to know what I should get and what’s even compatible with my motherboard.

I have an HP p7-1154 (64bit)
AMD A6-3600 APU with Radeon (tm) HD graphics 2.10 GHz.
14GB of ram (just added two 4gb sticks to my one 6gb)

I also added a 500G SSD. Both of these things have made a huge difference. I want to upgrade my CPU as I’ve read my older quad core might be outperformed by some newer duel cores even.. I don’t care what I get so long as the specs are better then what I’m working with now.

I also want to upgrade GPU which I’ve been told I’ll need a new power supply that can put out more juice.

Hopefully this is enough info for you guys to point me in the right direction. I know there is high end and low end so to speak. Not looking to break the bank but not pinching pennies either. Was thinking around 3-400 bucks each for CPU and GPU, so 6-800 buck total..

Sell the cpu, motherboard, and the ram you just bought, cause it's not worth trying to salvage. No upgrade even worth looking at available on the FM1 socket. You need something much more recent, like this:

If this is still a bit much, you can save some more by dropping down to 8gbs of ram instead of the 16gbs.

Unfortunately I agree. FM1 and also socket AM3+ are dead end sockets.

Do something like the above upgrade and carry over your 500gb SSD. If you wanted to save 150 or so, maybe look at the rx 580 8gb. The RX 580 is definitely slower than the rtx 2060, but for 1080p 60hz gaming, it should let you play almost anything out right now.

Also, you would need to budget for a new case since your old system is an hp. The case might not be easy to reuse, and may not have great airflow.
