The picture linked is my current PC specs http://s347.photobucket.com/user/Farabaugh3/media/specs.png.html?sort=3&o=0
I also currently have a Gigabyte 2ac8 motherboard which is AMD. I want to upgrade my PC so that I can play most games on high graphics settings. I am new to upgrading PC and was just wondering what areas and should upgrade and what I should upgrade them with. Originally I was going to upgrade the CPU to the AMD FX-8320, the GPU to a Geforce GTX 750 TI, and upgrade to 8GB of ram. I am unsure however if that processor will work with my motherboard.

Another question I have which i thought about doing is if I buy a new case with a new motherboard (intel motherboard) and power supply will I be able to transfer over any of the components from my current PC to the new one? Thanks everyone for your help!

I only plan on spending roughly around $600 for upgrades also.

Solution

Getting a new CPU and GPU is MUCH cheaper than getting a new mobo, case and transferring everything to the new case. Also, you will need a new copy of Windows if the HDD will not boot because It does not recognize the parts. I have heard of OEM HDD not working with a different CPU/MOBO.
Intel is better, but you need more than 600 for that.

The Motherboard will most likely need a BIOS update.

As Far as the Intel Route...

You could take all peripherals, the Hard Drive, the GPU if only for a temporary fix, DVD Drive, and your PSU if it has enough wattage. Also, if you get the same sized motherboard, you can use the same case.

Take 120-150 for the mobo, 220 for the CPU, ad the rest for a GPU. You can survive with 6 gigs of RAM

Add 8 gigs of RAM for 60-80 bucks. The Ripjaw's are for 70 right now.

The case I currently have is a HP elite desktop case. The only problem I have with this is that I do not know how to install or remove a motherboard from the case. And i think that video card is to long for my case. Not sure though but im pretty sure. Also, what is a BIOS update? and if I were to stick with my current build and go the AMD route what processor, GPU would work with my mobo?

ooooh, a OEM. I wouldn't remove that, they do a lot of crap to keep it the way it came from the factory.

Well, a BIOS update may be out of the questions... It only supports Zambezi(what a shame...) but will provide a substantial boost. The processor is about 300 though...

RAM is 70
Use the GPU until you have enough money for ATLEAST A R9 270(X) THE 280 is about 250 right now.

I have cross checked before I posted the CPU, and yes, it will work.
You will need a 550 watt psu or higher. I do not know what type of PSU you can use.
I would recommend Seasonic for PSU's.
As far as the GPU I listed, it is WAY better. However, if you cannot afford it, the 650 ti is good. The problem with AMD cards is that they run HOT. If not the 270x/280x, get a 760 or 770 for Nvidia. They are about the same price. AMD comes with Mantle if you play Battlefront 4. Nvidia has a suite of software for recording and other stuff.

I'm just so confused haha. I posted this on multiple forums and some say this stuff won't work with my mobo and others say it does. I'm new to this I'm just really confused

They have not cross checked the specs.[strike] Oh, you know you will need to get thermal paste as well right?[/strike]
Forgot that they come with CPU fans and paste if you buy a CPU

Would tht processor and gpu run good enough so I can play games on high graphics? Also, is this cheaper than buying a new case with an intel motherboard and CPU? Is Intel that much better than amd that I should look into that?

I'd go with the 760 one, but it IS 123 above your budget. the 270 is 83 above your budget.

So if I were to decide between the FX-8320 and the FX-8150 that you suggested earlier which one is better? Also, the the only reason im worried about these graphics card is since mine is a standard hp case im not sure if it is able to fit a longer video card.

Your Mother board can't use the 8320, it is not supported. Can you measure the case?
