I bought a new case and moved all of my parts into it and plugged them all in except a USB 3.0ss cable. I didn't have a port for it and thought it wouldn't matter, but when I plugged my mouse and keyboard into the back USB ports it wouldn't work. Would that matter because shouldn't the motherboard USB ports still work?

Solution

Yeah... I guess that presents a problem, doesn't it. I guess I assumed you could use the USB2.0 ports.
You might want to remove the board from the case and lay everything out bread board fashion on an insulated surface with just the CPU/cooler, RAM, PSU, monitor, and KB connected. Momentarily short the two pins that the power button would connect to in order to start the system. See if the KB works that way.
The back ports are hard wired to the motherboard. As long as you still have the USB driver installed, they should work. Did they work in the old case?
The front panel USB3 connector is just for the front panel ports. List your full specs to give us a better idea of what you have to work with.

Motherboard: Dell 88dt1
Gfx card:gtx 750 ti
Processor:3.5 GHz Intel i3
Power supply:corsair 430 watt
They did work in the old case but when I plug my mouse and keyboard in now they won't work.
