Hello , If you could please bear with the long read I would appreciate it.
The issue -
I have recently had several power outages due to storms. The first time the power shut off, my desktop pc was turned off but plugged in, when I received power a few days later, I booted up the computer and everything was fine, however when surfing the web, a transformer down our electrical grid went down and we lost power again.
Well after the power was restored again, I booted up my computer and ran WD Data lifeguard just to check that SMART was showing everything was fine. Well it turns out it wasn't. The pop up I receive when trying to run it shows
quick test on drive 1 did not complete. Status code
= 07(failed read test element), Failure checkpoint=97(unknown test)
Smart self test did not complete on drive 1.
I downloaded crystaldisk as well, and it shows health status caution, the only thing that looks off is C5, it states the current pending sector count is at 1. I have tried diskck but I still cant complete Datalifeguard and crystaldisk gives the same info.
I am fortunate enough that I have an external HDD and I have copies of all my music/photos/video/game files. I want to keep using this computer until I can get a replacement hdd or even a refurb desktop.
My question/concerns are this. While I keep using this daily, I will continue to add more music/photo/video/game files to it and when I download/save the new files, I will then transfer them to my external HDD. Since, it is already showing problems, I am worried about file corruption.
If say I download a music/photo/video file with my computer in this condition, could I possibly corrupt any/all data on my external HDD by transferring them as I get them?
Thank you in advance to anyone who can help clarify this for me.
