Ok guys I'm new here, have been reading and need help!
I had an 1700 XP POLAMINO (Shyt) and msi k7t266 pro 2 (good). Sold both units and have some money, I want the biggest band for the buck. I was thinking the asus A7N8X mobo( not deluxe ). I want to overclock it a little with the XP 2400. Is this a good choice? the diffrence between the 2200 and the 2400 is 20 bucks, should I go with the 2200? which model comes unlocked?
Thanks guys!
Bobby

JIUHB stands for the core stepping and DLT3C is the model numer.

If you get yourselve an XP2100+ or XP1700+ with T-bredB core and JIUHB or AIUHB core stepping you will have a very good OC'able (2.2 GHz shouldn't be a problem with decent aircooling) CPU for a low price.

My dual-PSU PC is so powerfull that the neighbourhood dims when I turn it on 😱

quick questions,
1. Is the asus board im getting the best one out there???
2. Do I have to do any mods to the 2400 to overclock it? what could I overclock it to?

Well I have the A7N8X regular and it ocs pretty well. I might have gone for the Deluxe if I knew about the Soundstorm at the time though... think about that

As for chip, I have the 2500+, cheapest official 333FSB chip (also cheapest one with Barton core). Stock speed is 1.83, ocs to a solid 2.2 Ghz with air cooling. I got mine for about $130 which isnt TOO bad =)

Athlon XP 2500+ @ 2.2GHz (12.5x177), Volcano 7 w/Smart Fan2, A7N8X, Kingston HyperX PC3000 512MB @177MHz, Radeon 9700Pro, SB Live 5.1

1. IMO not if you're looking for overclocking features. In that case the Epox 8RDA+ or Abit NF7 are better choices.
2. Not if you only want to use the higher range multipliers (13x and higher). You can probably get it to 2.2-2.3 GHz with decent aircooling.

With the Asus board, which cpu would I get the most speed from when overclocking, the 2400 xp tb, or the barton 2500???

dont discount the performance boost which the barton has over the tbred by having 512k L2 cache instead of 256.
I'd go Barton if i had to choose between those. But i found an 1800 JIUHB DLT3C which was dirt cheap and does 190x11 with poor air cooling

Well in raw MHz the XP2400 would win... but don't forget that the Barton has double the L2 cache compared with the T-bredB, which will give it better results when you're running them both at the same speed.

I would go for the Barton because of its enlarged cache.
