I've recently purchased an HP Pavilion 15 gaming laptop with i5 9300H & GTX 1050 3GB from Walmart for $500 ($150 off Black F sale). It comes with 1 8GB ddr 4 2666 ram stick. I think max cap is 32GB. It's got 2 total ram slots and one of them is empty. I have a BALLISTIX SPORT 8GB kit 2x4GB ddr4 RAM sticks rated at 2400 speed and 1.2V.

My question is if I add one 4GB ram stick(2400) to the existing 8GB(2666) one will I get dual channel memory? I know it'll run at the slower speed (2400). Also, is it possible to overclock the 4GB one to 2666? If not then will slower speed and more ram hurt my gaming performance? Is it worth adding extra 4GB if it's going to run at slower speed single channel?

What type / series / manufacture are the 18GBs that are already there?

  • Also if you are going to use it for gaming purposes the 18GBs is heavily enough for gaming.
  • 266MHz isn't too big of a difference when it comes to RAM, so no it won't be. ( You may not even notice the difference between 2400 and 2666 )

He said he had 1-8GB stick not 18GB,Legion777 you can try another 4GB and see how it does or buy another matched set of 2X8 for 16GB
