hey guys ive got some extra $ im wanting to put into a new comp. i've decided to go with the c2 e6600 and a 8800gtx.

i'm at a loss as to where to go mobo wise thought. this is a gaming cpu, and im not worried about oc'n at this point. id also like to stay in the 200$ price range. suggestions/feedback would be wonderful.

Hello, I'm in sort of the same situation... I have chosen a C2D E6600 and a lower end GPU than the 8800 due to budget, but I plan on upgrading the video card in a bit.

I chose the XFX PVT71GUQF3 GeForce 7900GT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 video card after some reading. My current problem is this: I can't seem to figure out which mobo I should use with this memory, CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 . I looked at the P5B Deluxe and heard of numerous issues with similar types of ram and also the bad sound quality; I've also heard some interesting problems on Newegg about the Asus P5W DH.

Any help is appreciated and sorry to hijack your thread, but I didn't really think this post deserved a new topic with this one being pretty similar.

I totally agree... I've been hesitating on a few choices because I start to read about the problems others have. In regarding the Asus P5W DH Deluxe, I heard of some C2D compatibility problems on the older version of the bios and this was fixed later on. The problem is, if you get shipped a board with the older version, you need to use an older CPU to update the BIOS; however I have also heard that the amount of P5W DHs with the older version that are being shipped are lower and lower and there's only a slight chance you'll run into one. (More info at the Asus site: http://event.asus.com/2006/mb/P5W_DH_DELUXE_faq.htm)

I'll look into the Gigabyte GA-965P-DQ6 and get back to you with my findings... I'd much rather have a 965P chipset than the 975X(which is what the P5W DH is) anyway.

Why would you prefer the 965P over the 975X? Just curious!

Would you prefer the Gigabyte DQ6 over the ABIT AW9D or AW9D-Max?

Honestly, I don't have any experience with it lol. I've just heard that it was generally better for Conroe and newer? Faster bus speeds? I might be overclocking in the future, but I don't want to hinge my setup on that--so I've heard 965P was better in that regard, as well.

I'm not really sure why I said that, I've been pretty damn tired, lol. I'm definitely open as to what would be the best mobo for my setup(the E6600 and CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 800 Model: TWIN2X2048-6400C4), whatever the chipset. My mistake 😳. The Abit AW9D-Max looks quite promising, hopefully there aren't any discrepancies with that and TWIN2X2048-6400C4 memory. Just out of curiousity...would anyone prefer another set of ram that's better than the TWIN2X2048-6400C4 for around the same price? Or am I set.

Thanks :)

Yea im not disagreeing with you, im just in a similar boat myself. Im going to order CPU, Mobo, and Ram in the next few days so I am just tryin to see what everyone else is lookin at.

I am set on 2 of the 3 and have been looking at the AW9D Series for a while now.

Im getting Intel Xeon 3050 with a Scythe Infinity and shooting for 3.2 - 3.4ghz!

The memory im looking at is from a newer company or atleast newer to me. I have read up on them and it looks like they are using micron chips and have great timings/OC ability at a good price.

We will see how it works out!

Hmm. I've never heard of that brand before and it seems to be quite new. The reviews seem to be great and 8O at the latency... I would like to order in a few days myself, but I can't help but feel that I need more time and further investigation before I feel content; especially when my feelings on motherboards are all over the place this time around. Good luck :)

P.S. I'm still looking for more suggestions mobo-wise and feedback from experience.
