After replacing my PSU with a 750 upgrade I find that my computer still fails post leaving me with nothing but an amber power button. Nothing else but a bad MB which I have not see since compaq servers.

SO Do I buy a dell or can I upgrade the MB without throwing out CPU

Below is my config which shows it is not yet ready for the garbage. I am not a gamer but do some video editing. I wouldn't mind making a long term investment (under 1000usd) in a GPU that can handle ultra HD or even soon to be every where 5k.
Thank you!

For video editing, especially in Adobe Premiere the CPU is more important than GPU, the exception is Nvidia Quadro GPU that cost(500$- 5000$) a lot and sucks at everything else, it is bad even at some 3d modeling programs.

I would suggest you getting new MB + CPU + GPU + SSD drive for best price performance video editing computer for that budget. You can keep the ram, power supply, hard drives, case, dvd,...

For 1000$ you should get(Power Suply included):

Great Answer, Finally! I was thinking no one would every answer my question.. Thank you! So processor is garbage by todays standards?

I just got info from my daughter. She will be applying for HS, Arts Charter, doing video editing, and photo shop. Main reason for upgrading my PC. BUT She says she needs a MAC. This is understandable? So is the a cheaper up grade for my PC AND, AND "Probably wrong place to ask" shoud I build a Hackentosh, or buy the new MAC; one with HD monitor for $2700

I used to have Macbook Pro, bought it for a lot of money when it came out, even for video editing Windows and normal PC's are better. Also easy upgradability saves you a lot of money and with Mac you don't have as many applications available as in Windows so you are limited in many ways, not a good investment of money at all.

Tell you daughter that the PC will run much faster and smoother than Mac for a lot less money. Also if you don't use it for gaming you can get a chaeper Graphics card or a cheap Quadro for a specialized video editing PC.

This Nvidia Quadro is great for video editing for around 400$: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/pny-video-card-vcqk2200pb

For all around video card good for watching movies, gaming and video editing, get this Nvidia GTX 960:

With the extra money buy additional 4gb of ram, but you must make sure that all ram sticks are exactly the same type of RAM.

I agree that Apple lost exclusive ownership of that market. But they didn't lose the heart and soul of the key people. We looked at 2 Charter Schools here in NJ that are Super Competitive and all they have are Mac Pro's. I am an old tech dog ex-Microsoft employee pre-Internet and been computing prior to the Graphical User Interface. I want her to know how to navigate in a Mac. Mac people can be quite snooty bigots. So I should probably look into a dual boot Mac Windows to leverage my HW investment. Thats going to eat up my budget. I remember having a dual boot OS2/Windows pc, LOL. I probably need to research building a Hackentosh in a different forum. But I still have a burnt MoBo. BTW I put in a new PSU (750 watt) in already. Figured that was the problem initially. So can I get a Beast Video card and keep my processor which works quite well do basic internet/Office. I want to add a SSD also cutting down on any HD latency.
