Need new power supply.

Hi everyone.

I need a new power supply since I may be adding another GTX 680 soon and I don't trust my 750W Powercool to handle it.
I was looking at the 760i from corsair but I don't know if it has all the right connectors that I need since I'm abit confused with all that. Also any other recommended PSU would be helpful.
Semi Modular or Fully Modular power supplies please. Do the fan connectors come with the power supply? I will be overclocking. CPU will be at 4.4/4.5GHz.
With slight GFX overclock.

My build is as follows;

CPU- Intel Core i7 3770K

Motherboard- Gigabyte UP5-TH

Ram- Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB 1866Mhz

PSU- Powercool 750w Black 80 Plus (needs upgrading)

GPU- EVGA GTX 680 Signature 2

Case- Coolermaster Haf 922

HDD- 1TB WD10002FAEX Caviar Black

Drives- 2 DVD Drives.

SSD- 128GB OCZ Agility 4

CPU Cooler- Corsair H100

Fan Controller- Aerocool Touch 2000

Wireless Card- GC-WB300D

Extras- Front Red Led Fan, Side Red Led Fan. 120mm at back and bottom of case.

For a system using two GeForce GTX 680 graphics cards in 2-way SLI mode NVIDIA specifies a minimum of a 750 Watt or greater system power supply that has a maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of 53 Amps or greater and that has at least four 6-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors or two 6-pin and two 8-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors depending on brand and model of the graphics card.

Total Power Supply Wattage is NOT the crucial factor in power supply selection!!! Total Combined Continuous Power/Current Available on the +12V Rail(s) rated @ 45°C - 50°C ambient temperature, is the most important factor....

My bad, I didn't know they switched the AX series to flextronics, very good power supplies regardless.

1200W is overkill for me. I would never use that much, the 760i is about the sweet spot for me since its platinum power efficiency too.

On your PSU did it come with moles adapters too plug your fans into?
Also I'm in UK so I can't use newegg but I will look for a alternative.

That will probably be my choice of PSU.
Seems good enough.

Gaming mainly and some video editing, picture editing etc.

Thankyou for this. It helped a lot in understanding power supplies and what to look for, is the 750W combined system wattage or just SLI wattage?
The graphic card requires one 6 pin and one 8 pin.
My CPU and GPU are overclocked too. With a 4.5GHz OC at 1.23V.

The power supplies you recommended are great, and I also live in UK so thank you for that.
 


The 750 Watts is for all of the components in the computer case including the graphics cards.

I was able to deduce that you reside in the UK from your Powercool PSU since they only seem to be sold there.

Surely 750W is not what it will actually pull on Full load though?

The PSU was a quick decision due too dad not willing to pay around £100 for a 750W-.-
I love Corsair Power Supplies. XFX seem to be pretty good. Seasonic, Antec, EVGA. All seem to be good choices.
 


750 Watts is a power supply capacity recommendation. It is not the system's power draw since that would be less than 390 Watts when using one GeForce GTX 680 and less than 555 Watts when using two GeForce GTX 680 in 2-way SLI mode.

You would never run a 750 Watt power supply at a full 750 Watt power draw continuously for any extended length of time because it would be doubtful that it would survive for very long.

Thankyou. Sorted my confusion out, personally Im leaning towards the 760/760i from corsair. That will no doubt be a good enough power supply. Also since im putting new fans in, replacing the old ones all I have to do is plug them into the same slot. correct?
 


If the new fans have same connector type and same mounting method then it should be a direct swap with the old fan.
