This is currently what I have.

Motherboard: Asus Evo m4a88td-v evo/usb 3
CPU: AMD Athlon x2 250
GPU: Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB GDDR5
PSU: Corsair TX650W Power Supply
Ram: 16gb (4gbx4)

Nothing is overclocked. I don't have the cooling for it but that can change.

Im highly considering ordering a better cpu and overclock it. I've heard you can overclock your mobo to atleast the way i read this. Core unlocker/gpu boost/turbo key II and i have nvr messed with any of it. I built this a few yrs bk well more then a few lul

For just upgrading the CPU, the Phenom II x4 options, used, are probably worth it. The Phenom II x6 options are more expensive than a new AM3+ choices.....to the the point that you could almost get a FX4300+ and motherboard for that price.

In Phenom II x4, the 965/975 are likely your best options.....and you should be able to find one of those for ~$50.

I have the AMD A10 7850k on a a88x chipset asus mobo and I have my OC'd and have no probs at all. I take it form 3.7 to 4.2, mobo bios software makes ocing as easy as clicking a button in bios. I'm runing a Asus R9 390 gpu and it has simple oc software as well. As for those who will say I'm bottlenecked, my bud built a i5 6600k cpu setup with same gpu, and he only gets 6-7 more fps for the extra money he spent. After market cooler a must for AMD especially OCing but liquid isn't a must. A standard $30 cool master evo 212 will do the trick for a 3rd the money. Hope this helps

I just messed with my ocd a bit and went from 3.0 to 3.45 on a stock cooler at 49C along with stress test. It just seems that I could do alot better getting a used amd phenom. Upgrading my stock cooler. Ocing my GPU or upgrading. How much differance would it make in a Multiplayer Game in terms of loading/fps.

I would never buy a used CPU, unless buying a whole rig just for the kids or something. How cheap u trying to go, u can get a Athlon x4 860k for 69 brand new http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113379&cm_re=amd_athlon-_-19-113-379-_-Product. It's basiclly the same as my A10 with the onboard gpu portion turned off. Plus ur gpu is old and small, the onboard gpu for my A10 is better, and the A10 is only 119 and u can get med settings on most games with that alone and maybe add a standalone gpu down the road as money allows. But 70 bucks for the X4 is pretty damn cheap for a 4 core 3.7ghz cpu.

I'd prob be willing to spend couple hundred. Sitting here informing myself on MSI Afterburner. In my current case and stock heatsink for gpu i can't come above 850/1200 w/o hitting 70+C.

If an x4 would make a dif 70$ would be worth it.
Now as for GPU. This GPU has not let me down but 850/1200 card running at 60C on non oc is yuk.

Its like doing an engine rebuild. Your not getting a new vehicle. Just an improved from the previous state.

that x4 860k is a FM2+ Socket? My board doesn't support that.

AMD AM3 Phenom™ II/Athlon™ II/Sempron™ 100 Series Processors
Supports AM3 45 nm CPU
Supports CPU up to 140 W
AMD Cool 'n' Quiet™ Technology

Ya its a fm2. Ur not gona get much more outta ur setup without some change over. If ur near a Microcenter, they have great cpu mobo combos. U could get my A10 w something like a asrock or asus a88x mobo for @ 200 together. The A10 has a R7 250 gpu built right in, and u can share 1 or 2 gb of ur systems memory to make even better. This exact setup got me Heroes of Storm, StarCraft 2, going nice on med settings. Titanfall got almost 50 fps at med settings. After a year I added a beefy gpu ($300 R9 390) and now i get 60 or more fps onsame games at epic settings. Paragon, Shadows Mordor, Overwatch all now set at epic and getting 60fps or better on all. Ur psu is big enough, u may just need 4 more gb if u wanna share w onbaord gpu, I had 8 when i was doing that.

and yah i got so many freaking cords on this psu its not even close to funny. Thou i have them on the backside of the mobo plate in the case for less air restriction

Buying used of course comes with some risk, but buying through a place like Amazon helps mitigate it:

That should leave you with enough room to look at a GTX 950, or maybe even stretch a bit to a 380. Regardless, with that setup you should be able to find a playable setting in most situations:

No not really, plus u'd be putting more money into something that is at its technolgy end. The AM socket is based around the Phenom and FX series cpu. Both are older AMD tech. The APU line runs on the fm2 socket platform, and is newer, more efficent and powerful cpus. Mine is a 12 core (4cpu-8gpu) and starts at 3.7 ghz before overclocking. Plus I just checked and a refurbished phenom x6 is 150! Thats insane. It only runs at 2.8ghz even if its a 6 core. I don't belevie u could change just ur gpu or just ur cpu and get any real noticable difference (with exception A10, better ghz and better gpu built in but requires new mobo) They both need changed to play anything today. U may be able to switch to the fx series. I wouyldnt bother withanything under the fx 8350k, I belevie thats @ 150. But once again in that senario ur current gpu will keep u right about where u currently r even with the more powerful 8350k.
