Well I have a water cooled PC with an OC'd 965@4.1GHZ and my graphics is just 1 noon reference 5850 card.

Now my mobo only has 1 x16 slot and I was thinking should I do one or the other.

1. But a new mobo with 2 slots and get another 5850 and run them in crossfire. Also I only have a 720watt PSU so probably another psu is needed also.

2. Sell my 5850 and buy something like a 6970.

I guess it depends on your budget and how much more performance you expect to achieve, if you wan to Crossfire two 5850 you'll need a new graphics card + mobo + PSU. Maybe a single 6970 or a GTX580 could be good enough.

Budget doesn't really exist because I could have buy the best cards on the market if I wanted but I have a principle to save on things like this and hit a fine line where you get the best deal.

So to me this is how I see it.

Selling my 5850 and getting a 6970 would cost next to nothing but next time I need a card I have to do the same thing again and of course this solution doesn't perform as well as I play games with graphics mods.

The other option of selling my mobo + PSU to get another mobo with 3 slots and at least a 1500 watt psu plus another 5850 is a little more expensive but when I need to upgrade again I will be winning because I can buy 2 or even 3 of the mid range cards.

Also can anyone tell my what would be the bottleneck in my system.

A stock 5850 or the Phenom 965@4.1ghz.

stick with the HD 6970 idea, and leave the CF thing when you upgrade your whole system. it will max out any game out there just fine.
who told you you need a 1500W PSU to power a dual HD 5850s ???!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
if your PSU is a high quality and branded one it could run a pair of HD 6950s perfectly.
