I'm going to build a new computer for gaming. I have built a computer in a long time so I have some questions. These are the parts I'm thinking of right now:

I'm concerned about the CPU fan. I'd like one that's easy to attach but also works at cooling really well, if something like that exists. I've also considered this fan (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835709011&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-PCPartPicker,%20LLC-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=), but it looks pretty tough to put together and mount.

For the video card I can't decide between a GTX 970 and an R9 390. I like Nvidia cards because I've had good experiences with them in the past, but I understand that the R9 390 is better at higher resolutions, and I might buy a 2560x1440 monitor. However, I also sort of remember that I used to have video problems in Crysis either because my card at the time was a Radeon or because it was a Sapphire, and the card I've chosen is both. Has anyone ever heard about R9 390 cards causing problems or video artifacts in games like Crysis, Stalker, or XCOM? Or any games? Also, is there an R9 390 that runs cooler than others?

Any other input on the parts I've listed above would be great too. I don't mind going over budget—maybe as high as $1700—but only if it seems necessary. Right now what I've selected seems like it would carry me for a few years without any upgrades. Or would it?

Don't get an i7 6700k when you could get a 6 core i7 5820k for the same price or cheaper.

My understanding was that the extra cores didn't make much difference in gaming, especially for the older games that I play. Is that not right?

It's true for the most part so then why do you want the 6700k in the first place when you could get an i5? The fact is, the i7 6700k is just REALLY over priced. Get an i5 or the 5820k. Even the i7 4790k would be a better option.

I was figuring that with the 6700K I'd be able to wait longer before upgrading the CPU. Basically I was thinking that it would take longer before my computer started to feel slow.

That certainly what I want to hear! Okay, then, if I go with the 5820K, then do you recommend the Asus X99 board you mentioned above? Or was that just an example of an X99?

I got an Asus x-99-a usb 3.1and it benefits from 4 x 4pin case fans and 2x 4 pin cpu cooler 10G/bits M.2. If you want to use "only" one graphic Card, it is good bang for the duck.
